Written steps before the answer

A is extra text written before the final answer. Those lines become part of the history, so later next-word picks can use them. There is no separate thinking process off the page.

Ask “what is 17 × 19?” and the model can try to write the answer in one go. Ask it to show its work, and it writes extra text first — 17 × 20 = 340, then minus 17, then 323. Those extra lines are not thoughts happening offscreen. They are part of the reply. The next line can use them because they are already on the page.

Those steps are not an inner monologue behind the reply. They are the reply, so far. Later use them through , the same way “it” uses “apple.”

That pattern is : a written in the stream.

Press Step. Watch the working lines appear on the page. Each new line can only use what is already written.
